Vatican City:
Vatican City is most famous as being the site of the Vatican Palace, the official residence of the Pope as well as for the magnificent St Peter’s Basilica. It is a truly unique destination, being a city entirely within a city. It sprawls over a hill to the West of the River Tiber in Rome, separated from the rest of the city by a wall. Vatican City has been a sovereign state since 1929 and is the smallest country in the world with only one thousand residents.

Sleeveless shirts, shorts and short skirts are not allowed within the Vatican so do remember to cover up! It’s always a good idea to check beforehand that museums and other attractions will be open, especially if you are planning to visit during August, which is a holiday month for some local businesses.

Vatican City’s climate is the same as the rest of Italy. Summers tend to be hot, with temperatures in July averaging around 74F, while Winters are mild and wet.

When to go:
The best time to visit Vatican City is during Spring or Autumn as both are mild and the city also tends to be less crowded.
